Review of the book Aghore Ghumiye Shib

Name of the Book : Ahore Ghumiye Shib

Writer : Debarati Muhkopadhay

Publisher : Book Farm, Kolkata

Genre : Thriller

First of all it is not any political or communal kind of book. This book is not for spreading hatred or praising any community. It is only to correct some facts of the history that we are assuming to be right. The plot is based on world’s seventh wonder, Taj Mahal and its origin. Here the writer herself tried to present the narrative as a detective storyline. Did Mughal emperor Shahjahan built it for his beloved Begum Mumtaaj or is it a Shiva temple for Hindus that is what is written in the book. Again I’m making it clear that it is not a political or communal book. So now let’s come to the story. The main character is Rudra, female manager of a bank located in Agra. And yup, she is the detective of the story. Suspension order for Rudra came suddenly when crores of Indian money transacted from her branch and she did not inform this to higher authority. Rudra lives alone in Agra and Priyom (Husband) stays far in London for work. Rudra’s Baba and Maa want to come to Agra for staying with her. Two officers Khan and Singh from Delhi’s special investigating team came in search of Rudra at her Office. The person who was making these transactions was “Merchant of Death” a 90’s notorious arms dealer. He was the one who is main accuse for Mumbai Taj Hotel incident, but according to the intelligence report he had died long ago. Whatever it is their main motive was to destroy Taj Mahal and to find out the Shiv Linga under it to prove that it is not Mughal property. This is how the story evolves. Another character is Agharesh who lost her wife along with other family members in 1990 Kashmir Riot. Agharesh have researched about Taj Mahal and found out it to be a Shiva temple The police believed that Agharesh is the main culprit as crores of money credited to his bank a/c. Story goes deeper and deeper, more information came with that which you will know when you would read the book. So, I’m not revealing anything more than this or the suspense of this detective story will be lost. Here not only the side of Taj Mahal is explored but also the fact that pi of a circle and Pythagoras theorem originally discovered in ancient India is written beautifully with supported facts. Those who are interested in ancient India, and its rich sculptures will love the book. You will be lost in the story of the book.
